Students will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of warehouse management and distribution system. The course introduces the concepts, processes and applications for the effective management and control of distribution channels, storage and transportation systems. This includes topics such as channel network design, distribution inventory management, and material management functions such as receiving, putting away, replenishing, order picking and cycle counting. At the end of the course, students will explore future and emerging trends affecting storage.

Managing a world-class warehouse is now recognized as a potentially important source of competitive advantage rather than another source of cost before the product reaches the customer. To achieve this competitive advantage, it is important to choose the right type of operation, process and equipment, then to understand and continually improve performance through appropriate measurements and controls. “Warehouse Management” is a course that investigates warehouse functions, processes, organization and operations. We review an analysis of the warehouse’s location, operation, administration, controls, procedures, finances, security, cargo / material handling and productivity.
