Every year, in every country in the world, serious fires occur and people are killed or seriously injured due to the resulting fire or smoke. A contributing factor will be the inability to find a safe path out of the building. The best approach to fire safety is to first prevent fires. Proactive fire safety management helps achieve this goal. When these incidents occur, unobstructed secure escape routes, along with well established and well-practiced evacuation and fire safety management plans, have been shown to reduce the likelihood of injury and its impact. Building managers play an important role in understanding what fire safety measures are required to comply with local building and fire regulations. Proactive management is essential to ensure building users are aware of their responsibilities in applying these measures when relevant fire safety inspectors must ensure that facility owners and users clearly understand their role in fire prevention and provide adequate means of orientation for occupants to safely evacuate a building. in response to such an incident.
